"Always on" =========== My worldview changed when I asked a mentor for personal advice, and he said "I will only give it to you in a room where there are no electrical devices". My first blog post was [never record a meeting](/never-record-a-meeting). The *never* of that blog post is too strong. There is a lot of pressure right now to act more composed in work settings, because everything is recorded, the devices are always on. [Granola](https://www.granola.ai) has made its name by sneakily transcribing calls. Glasses with recording features are spreading^[But I predict they won't be *wide*spread in the next 5 years.]. The new Apple Watch will be (temporarily, they tell) recording speech as well for future retrieval. I noticed once I know a person uses a recording device, I categorize them mentally as an "always on" person. At least for now, I think there are gains to not being an "always on" person, because people might act differently around you.
