"Always on"
My worldview changed when I asked a mentor for personal advice, and he said “I will only give it to you in a room where there are no electrical devices”.
My first blog post was never record a meeting. The never of that blog post is too strong. There is a lot of pressure right now to act more composed in work settings, because everything is recorded, the devices are always on.
Granola has made its name by sneakily transcribing calls. Glasses with recording features are spreading1. The new Apple Watch will be (temporarily, they tell) recording speech as well for future retrieval.
I noticed once I know a person uses a recording device, I categorize them mentally as an “always on” person. At least for now, I think there are gains to not being an “always on” person, because people might act differently around you.
